Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I make a larger batch and keep the next cup ready?
The 1.7-liter capacity and 30-minute Keep Warm cycle suit that routine. For the Boil preset, the warming phase stays below boiling.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the green-tea button give an exact 80°C setting?
It selects 175°F. That is close to 80°C but is not exactly 80°C, and the kettle has no freely adjustable Celsius control.
Explore this need in the finder →Will it brew loose leaves inside the kettle?
No. Its removable scale filter catches mineral particles; brew your tea in a separate cup or teapot.

The Cuisinart PerfecTemp CPK-17P1 makes most sense as the household kettle that has to serve several drinks without becoming a small programming project. Its 1.7-liter capacity, broad pouring spout and clearly labeled buttons suit a pot of tea or a French press more naturally than a slow, tightly controlled pour-over. The reason to choose it is the combination of familiar presets and a half-hour warming window. The deciding compromise is that you choose from six temperatures rather than dialing in every recipe.
Read the numbers behind the tea names
The CPK-17 instructions identify settings of 160°F for delicate tea, 175°F for green, 185°F for white, 190°F for oolong, 200°F for French press and 212°F for Boil. These are convenient starting points, not rules that override the instructions supplied with your tea. Two teas in the same broad category may call for different preparation. A buyer who already follows a specific numerical recipe should compare that recipe with the actual button values.
This matters particularly when shopping in Celsius. A 175°F setting is approximately 79.4°C, so it should not be presented as an exact 80°C control. The handle indicators identify the selected program; they are not a numerical display showing the water's changing temperature. Choose a kettle with a live readout and documented adjustable increments if watching the temperature or making small changes is part of your routine.
What happens while you make breakfast
Keep Warm is enabled by default and maintains a selected non-boiling preset for 30 minutes. You can turn it off before or during heating. The kettle also remembers the active heating or warming cycle when it is lifted from the base for up to two minutes. That accommodates pouring a cup and promptly returning the jug, but it is not permission to leave an empty kettle warming on its base.
The Boil program behaves differently: Cuisinart says the subsequent warming cycle stays just below boiling. It does not specify an exact holding temperature there. This is useful if you want another hot cup, but it is not a documented way to hold water at 212°F continuously. If a recipe requires a fresh rolling boil, the manual gives a separate restart action. An altitude-dependent boiling point remains relevant as with other water kettles.
Capacity and pouring fit
The 1.7-liter maximum makes this a more suitable choice for a larger batch than a compact gooseneck. The blue-lit water window helps you see the fill level without opening the lid, while the lid-release button gives filling access from above. Allow space for that opening and for steam rather than treating the published footprint as the entire working space. Cuisinart lists the appliance at 8.8 inches long, 6.1 inches wide and 9.75 inches high.
The instructions require sensible filling below the maximum but do not give a numerical minimum in the operating text reviewed here. Follow the marks on the actual kettle. A shopper who must heat exactly a very small cup should choose a model with a documented minimum that accommodates it. Boil-dry protection is a safeguard, not a substitute for that minimum.
Cleaning affects the everyday experience
The removable scale filter is a useful maintenance feature: it can be pulled upward, rinsed and replaced. It is not a basket for loose-leaf tea. Heat water in the kettle and steep in a separate vessel. Let the appliance cool, unplug it and keep the electrical socket dry while wiping the body; neither jug nor base should be immersed.
Scale removal frequency depends on the hardness of your water and how often you use the kettle. Cuisinart describes using a kettle descaler and provides an alternative vinegar procedure. Follow the instructions for this appliance and for the chosen descaler rather than assuming an aggressive cleaning product is suitable. The stainless exterior and BPA-free claim also do not mean every water-contact component is metal.
Who should choose a different design?
Choose the CPK-17P1 if broad pouring, a visible water level and repeatable preset operation solve your daily problem. Consider Cuisinart's GK-1 instead if controlled gooseneck pouring matters more than maximum batch size. Look for a dial-based model with verified increments if your priority is an exact temperature outside these presets. That distinction is more useful than treating the PerfecTemp's six buttons as a universal measure of better tea.
