KLF03BLUSIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Choose it for larger everyday boiling batches and direct lever operation.

The main tradeoff

It boils and switches off; choose a variable-temperature kettle if lower targets and active holding are essential.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is this a straightforward kettle for a 1.5-liter teapot batch?

Yes. Its 1.7-liter maximum, general spout and lever-operated boiling cycle fit that broad task. Measure your pot and follow the actual fill marks.

Can I check the fill level from outside before starting a one-liter batch?

Yes. The manual shows the external level window beneath the handle, and the 1.7-liter maximum covers a liter. Follow the minimum and maximum markings before starting the lever-operated boiling cycle.

Will it select 80°C and hold that setting for tea?

No. KLF03 has a boiling cycle rather than selectable lower-temperature holding. Compare a model offering those two functions together.

Choose it for everyday boiling and a generous jug

The SMEG KLF03BLUS suits a kitchen that wants a full-size general-purpose kettle, with a water-level indicator and simple lever-operated boiling. Its nominal 1.7-liter capacity is more relevant to a shared teapot or several drinks than to a precise pour-over routine. The glossy black retro body is a finish choice; it does not add the variable-temperature controls of a different SMEG model.

The exact US suffix matters. This assessment follows KLF03BLUS, not an overseas KLF03 electrical edition, the smaller KLF05, or a KLF04 variable-temperature kettle. A similar silhouette is not enough to transfer a different model's power, capacity or controls.

Capacity and an external level indicator

The manufacturer describes 1.7 liters as up to seven cups. Use the liter capacity for comparisons because cup sizes vary. A large mug, a small teacup and a teapot with room for leaves do not represent the same water requirement. Check the amounts you actually prepare, then use the kettle's own markings rather than automatically filling to maximum.

The external water-level window sits below the handle, so you can check the amount before opening the lid. The manual also identifies an internal maximum mark and tells you to respect both minimum and maximum indicators. A large maximum does not mean every small amount is supported.

The gentle-opening lid changes filling, not temperature control

SMEG describes the lid opening gently to limit a sudden release of steam. This is useful when refilling a recently used kettle, but it is not a reason to put a hand above the opening or treat hot water casually. Allow the steam path room and follow the instructions before opening or adding water.

The lid's opening action is also distinct from a completely removable lid. If your cleaning preference is to lift the whole lid off, do not assume a soft-opening hinged mechanism satisfies it. Think about your sink, the space beneath an overhead cabinet and how you will reach the interior. Access matters more in daily use than whether the closed kettle fits neatly into a photograph.

Simple boiling is its central routine

The documented lever control and automatic boiling shut-off make this a straightforward household appliance. Its 1,400-watt US rating describes electrical input, not a boil time measured in this review. Your fill amount, starting water temperature and local conditions affect the process; a wattage comparison alone does not establish exactly how long your morning cup will take.

Choose this routine if you mostly need boiling water and prefer direct controls. If you want to select a lower brewing temperature, keep water at that chosen setting, or watch a numerical live readout, compare a kettle designed to provide those functions. Automatic shut-off at boiling is not a user-selectable temperature menu.

The filter catches scale; it does not brew tea

The removable, washable stainless-steel filter helps trap mineral deposits that build up in water. It is a limescale filter at the pouring path, not an included tea infuser. If you plan to brew leaves inside a kettle, this component does not turn the KLF03 into that kind of appliance.

The metal body and filter also do not establish an entirely metal water-and-steam path. Treat the manufacturer's actual component descriptions as the relevant claim rather than replacing them with “plastic-free.” The manual permits rinsing this filter under running water with a soft brush. Keep the appliance itself out of the dishwasher and do not immerse it. Wipe cooled exterior surfaces with a soft damp cloth, avoiding abrasive products, and follow the descaling directions. Catching loose scale as you pour does not remove deposits inside the vessel.

Allow space for filling and pouring

The stated appliance dimensions are 9¾ inches high, 9 inches wide and 6¾ inches deep. Check the complete installed arrangement, then allow extra access for the lid and your hand. A gap that accommodates the closed body may still be inconvenient under a low shelf.

The 360-degree base allows the jug to be positioned for use without a fixed docking orientation, and the integrated cord wrap helps manage the stated 39⅜-inch cable. Neither feature makes it a battery-heated kettle. Keep the base in a suitable dry location near its appropriate outlet, with enough working space to lift and return a full jug.

Who should shortlist it?

Choose the KLF03BLUS when a full-size boiling jug, a water-level indicator and this particular design suit your household. Consider the smaller KLF05 if capacity and a compact routine matter more, or a selectable-temperature model if brewing control is the deciding requirement. The right comparison starts with your water and pouring routine; the finish comes after those needs are settled.
