Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I keep a larger selected-temperature batch ready for half an hour?
Yes for its supported lower presets, with 1.7 L maximum and a restart after lifting.
Explore this need in the finder →Does it offer an exact 80°C setting?
No. 175°F is approximately 79.4°C; no arbitrary Celsius target is documented.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require an external water window?
Yes. It is part of the exact model specification.

The Hamilton Beach 41020R suits someone who wants a 1.7-liter stainless kettle for several drinks, with dedicated temperature buttons and an optional warming period. It is a useful model reference when checking an exact retail package or an appliance you already own. Its main tradeoff is that six fixed settings cannot supply every recipe temperature, and the warming cycle stops when the jug is lifted from its base.
The exact model is more useful than a family resemblance
The official 41020R page identifies its capacity, six controls, water window and Keep Warm function, then links the manufacturer's operating guide. Another reference uses model 41020J and the same guide. That supports comparing their documented core routines, but does not prove every production suffix, accessory or electrical base is interchangeable. Check the actual model and supplied package when buying parts or a marketplace listing.
A page that remains a manufacturer reference also does not guarantee a current offer from a particular seller. This assessment makes no price or stock promise and does not infer discontinuation from availability wording. The useful question is whether the exact supported configuration meets your water-heating needs.
Six Fahrenheit targets rather than a free temperature dial
The guide lists 160°F for delicate tea, 175°F for green, 180°F for white, 190°F for oolong or hot cocoa, 200°F for French press and 212°F for boiling or black and herbal teas. These are program labels with specific targets. A tea called green or white may come with preparation instructions that differ from the button, so compare the number first.
There is no documented single-degree adjustment or switchable Celsius display. A recipe asking for exactly 80°C cannot be matched by rounding 175°F upward. The selected button lights and flashes during heating, and the blue water-window light helps with level visibility. Neither constitutes a numerical display of the water's changing temperature.
A simple boil remains available
If you press Start/Stop without selecting another temperature, the kettle defaults to boiling. That is useful in a household where one person follows a tea recipe and another simply wants water for a cup or a separate food vessel. Its 1500-watt heater is a manufacturer specification, not a measured promise about how quickly your chosen batch will boil.
The general-purpose spout is intended for serving into a mug, pot or French press. A gooseneck is a distinct tool if narrow-stream control across coffee grounds is essential. The jug lifts away from its power base for pouring, leaving the cable at the counter. Cord-free serving does not provide heating away from that plugged-in base.
Plan for the restart after the first cup
Select Keep Warm when you want the manual's 30-minute selected-temperature warming routine. It is an optional mode rather than a reason to assume every cycle remains active indefinitely. When the interval finishes, the kettle shuts off. This fits a short preparation window better than repeated cups across a whole morning.
Lifting the jug stops the warming function. After returning it, select and restart the desired temperature and Keep Warm controls as instructed. That detail matters as much as the headline duration if you frequently pour and return. A buyer who wants automatic continuation after serving should compare a model that explicitly documents that memory behavior.
Filling, filter care and the alternative
The normal fill range is 0.5–1.7 liters. It works for a larger batch, but not for a requirement to heat only 200 milliliters. The water window helps you respect those marks, while the button-operated lid remains attached. A completely removable lid is a different access preference. Do not operate below the normal minimum simply because boil-dry protection is present.
The removable mesh filter catches scale particles and can be rinsed after cooling. It is not a tea infuser, and the manual limits the kettle to heating water. Unplug before cleaning, keep the connector dry and descale as needed rather than relying on the filter to prevent deposits. Choose the 41020R when its exact presets and serving routine fit. The Cuisinart CPK-17P1 is a fair comparison for different preset values and a different response after lifting from the base.
